The Fishery

Why This Water Is Famous

The stretch of the White River below Beaver Dam is a classic tailwater fishery. Cold water is released from the bottom of Beaver Lake, which keeps the river cool and oxygenated through the hot Arkansas summer months when most warm water fisheries slow down. That consistent cold water is the reason rainbow and brown trout thrive here in a state that is otherwise famous for bass.

The fishing is considered world class. Anglers travel from across the country, and some international, to fly fish this water. Because the water comes out of the dam cold and clear, the bugs, the drifts, and the sight fishing all work the way fly anglers want them to. You can land a wild trout here on dry flies in the middle of July.

Our cabins sit 450 feet above the river on cliff formations, so there is no direct river access from the property. The closest public access point and boat ramp is about five minutes away by car. Art and Amy know this river and can point you to the spots that are fishing best during your stay.

When to Come

Best Seasons to Fish

๐ŸŒธ

Spring

Cool days, strong hatches, and hungry trout after winter. One of the best windows of the year for both dry fly and nymph fishing.

โ˜€๏ธ

Summer

The tailwater stays cold while the rest of the South bakes. Summer is prime trout water here while warmwater rivers slow down. Early mornings and late evenings are magic.

๐Ÿ‚

Fall

Brown trout run and get aggressive before spawning. Leaf color along the Ozark hills makes this one of the most scenic times to be on the water.

โ„๏ธ

Winter

The river stays fishable year round. Winter fishing is quiet, the crowds disappear, and the cabin wood burning stoves make warming up between sessions a pleasure.

Any Time of Day

Dam release schedules shift water levels throughout the day, which changes what sections fish best. Check release schedules before heading out. We can help guests understand the flow that week.

๐ŸŽฃ

Licenses

An Arkansas fishing license with a trout permit is required. Visit the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission website for current rates, daily or annual options, and to purchase online before your trip.
